Group Music Lessons
Groups are a great alternative to private music instruction. Meet other musicians in the neighborhood. Get some support from your classmates as you learn. Try keeping a song together as an ensemble.
At Meter we offer two types of group lessons: Weekly Classes and Community Classes.
Weekly Classes offer the same consistency and dedicated time that students like so much about traditional private lessons. Tuition for weekly classes is $18 per class.
Community Classes are a wide open experience. Non-musicians are welcome. Instructors are invited to explore musical topics they don't always get to cover in their weekly lessons. Students in private lessons at Meter may show up to make up a missed lesson or broaden their knowledge by getting to know a different instructor. Tuition for community classes is pay what you can, and 100% of your donation goes to the instructor.

Beginning Adult Guitar
Total beginner on guitar? Already know some chords but want to get better and play with some other guitarists? Beginner and intermediate guitarists are encouraged to try this group. Basic chords, easy songs, and a little bit of music theory will be covered. Bring your acoustic or electric guitar and we'll provide some tunes and material to try practicing at home. Instructor will cater to individual progress in rhythm and lead playing, and will lead the group in playing as an ensemble.

Intermediate Adult Guitar
If you can already play a handful of chords and maybe know a song or two, then you are over the brutal first learning curve with guitar. You may still feel like a beginner, but it is time to jump ahead. As you start playing through complete songs in this intermediate class, it will open up opportunities to talk about basic theory, improvise with scales, and keep adding to your growing chord vocabulary. As with many of our group classes, you'll find encouragement to perform but no requirement. Join Dana in taking your rhythm, lead and ensemble playing to the next level!

All Voices
Ages 11 and up • ages 6-10 free with parent or caregiver
This class is for individuals or families who love to sing and want to sing more. We’ll first discover who we are as a group, then choose the best songs for our group to sing, followed by some serious singing fun. Each class will begin with fun and unique vocal warm ups, and warm up songs. Although the primary focus of this class will be pure singing fun, students will also be taught how to develop their singing skills and musical ear, and most important of all, learn how to respect and honor the uniqueness of every singer’s voice.

Beginning Drums & Percussion
Ages 5 - 12
Hand drums, drumset, percussion and voice are explored in this weekly class with Jen Gilleran. Group format lets young players work together on rhythm fundamentals and begin composing as an ensemble. Contact the school to schedule a date to preview the last 10 minutes of class so that Jen can assess whether it's a good fit for the young drummer in your family. No previous experience necessary, just an excitement and commitment to learn!

Beginning Youth Guitar
Guitar players on acoustic or electric are welcome to join us and begin learning some simple riffs, open chords, and easy songs. Faculty will have some songs in mind, but students are encouraged to bring their favorite music to class. In class we'll check in on student practicing progress, and play some songs as a gorup. Guitarists who are practicing regularly at home can advance to the Intermediate class after 6 months to a year of playing.

Jazz In Context: Jam Sessions & History
Join woodwind instructor Kate Olson as she presents sounds, videos and stories from legendary jazz artists. Musicians at all levels are encouraged to bring their instrument and will be given opportunities to improvise along with recordings and each other. Each class will consist of learning materials centered around a specific jazz figure or style, a new tune to learn, and a jam session over recorded (and live) accompaniment for that tune.
