FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is your teaching philosophy?
We want all students to be excited to return to lessons each week. For some that means incorporating a variety of activities and games, for others that means a strict and challenging regimen. It takes patience and positivity to guide students through all the wonderful challenges of learning an instrument. Our instructors work with each student and family to find the right balance and approach.
What is the best age for my child to start lessons?
It depends on the child and the instrument. Many 5 and 6 year olds are ready for ukulele, piano, singing, and drum lessons. It starts with a conversation with our staff, and with young beginners we’ll want to continue that conversation in the first weeks and months in case we need to make changes so that weekly music is a fun experience.
Do you teach adults, too?
Yes! Many adults are starting out on their first instrument in our groups and private lessons. Others are building on previous experience.
Should I rent or purchase an instrument?
Either can be a great way to start. If you are considering renting, just compare the price of new instruments to see what makes sense long term.
Does Meter sell or rent instruments and materials?
No – our schools are dedicated to teaching lessons, classes, and camps.
Where should I shop for instruments and materials?
The Trading Musician and Kennelly Keys are great places to start.
